Nelson Grizzlies Rugby is back in Nelson.

The Grizzlies hosted Cranbrook’s Rocky Mountain Rogues Saturday before an enthusiastic crowd of supporters at the Lakeside Pitch in Kootenay Rugby Union action.

The Rogues, supported by a few locals to fill out the roster, defeated the Grizzlies 24-14.

Cranbrook had a strong second half to secure the victory.

Rowan Megale and Matthew Rendell scored tries for the Grizzlies. Ben Davies added a conversion to round out the Nelson scoring.

The Grizzlies are idle until mid-June when the club travels to the East Kootenay for a pair of games.

Nelson will meet a touring team from Edmonton before resuming its Kootenay rivalry with the Rogues June 14.

The club, which had been idle the past few seasons, trains Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. as well as Saturday at 1 p.m. at the L.V. Rogers pitch.
