The City of Nelson said in a media release Monday, that the Water Quality Advisory issued on May 9, 2018 due to Elevated Turbidity Levels (cloudiness) is now rescinded.

“It is safe for all residents serviced by the municipal water system to drink their tap water,” the media release said.

The decision comes after consultation with the Interior Health Authority

“The elevated turbidity in our source water, resulting from weeks of warm temperatures and rapid snowmelt from a historically deep snowpack, has decreased to a level where water quality is no longer degraded,” the media release added.

City staff continues to monitor water quality at our source and throughout our system however,  a significant amount of high mountain snowpack remains to melt.

“Should water quality change, we will post any future notices on the City’s website, through social and print media, radio and via telephone to users deemed to be at unique risk,” City staff said.
