Deane Horning & Company came close but could not qualify for the playoffs at the 2018 AMJ Campbell Van Lines Mixed Curling Championships in Richmond.

Fact is, the team that eliminated Horning, third Susan McKenzie, second James McKenzie and lead Nicole Horning, Cody Tanaka of the host Richmond Curling Club, doubled Brent Pierce of Royal City-New Westminster 6-3 in eight ends to capture the provincial Mixed title Sunday afternoon.

Tanaka stole three in the second end before adding two in the fourth to build the insurmountable lead en route to the title.

For Horning, the Castlegar-based rink lost to Tanka in the B-event final 8-5 before dropping a 7-3 decision to Wes Craig of Victoria in the C-event final.

The two losses eliminated Horning from the playoff round.

Horning opened the Mixed Championship with a 6-4 loss to Pierce.

The Sunflower City foursome then reeled off wins over Jeff Guigard of Vancouver 6-3, Cameron DeJong of Victoria 6-5 and Jeff Richard of Victoria/Chilliwack 6-5 to advance to the B Final.
