Vibrant costumes, fun challenges and great prizes. This is what you can expect at this year’s annual SROAMazing race to be held up at Whitewater Ski Resort on March 23.

The race is hosted by Selkirk College’s Ski Resort Operations and Management Program (SROAM) class and is open to the public to attend and participate. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaries Society (AABBS), a non-profit formed to provide free Avalanche Skills Training to youth between the ages of 12 to 18 in the Kootenay area.

“The SROAMazing Race is a bunch of fun for everyone involved,” says Ryan Lachapelle, Amazing Race Canada runner-up and SROAM graduate. “It’s awesome to see how much the event has progressed since my class and I created it back in 2011. I can’t wait for this year’s race especially with the change in location to Whitewater!”

Teams of four will compete on their skis and snowboards to win a variety of fantastic prizes. Costumes are most definitely encouraged, with a special prize being awarded to the team that is best dressed. All ages and abilities are welcome, with clues taking you for an adventurous safety-themed scavenger hunt.

Contestants need to be capable of navigating the Silver King lift and base area of Whitewater to complete different activity stations. Past participants agree that the event is enjoyable, and is run smooth and efficiently.

Get your team together today to participate in this year’s SROAMazing Race, held at Whitewater ski resort by the SROAM first-year students.

Register early at the Valhalla Pure Outfitters to go into the draw for an early bird prize. Registration can also be completed between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on the day at the event staging area. All teams will need to check in at the staging location prior to the race. Entry is $20 per team.
