There’s no better place to enjoy winter art than at the the Slocan Valley Arts Council annual Winter Ice Day Saturday, January 6th in front of Sleep is For Sissies in Winlaw from 10 a.m. to  3 p.m.

Three internationally known ice sculptors, who just happen to live in the Slocan Valley, will lead participants through the process.

Peter Vogelaar, David Ducharme and Carl Schlicting travel the world carving, ice, snow and sand.

The trio will be providing all the tools and lots of guidance to help a lucky group of people on their way to creating a work-of-art in ice in a matter of hours! All you need to bring is some warm clothes and gloves (rubber is best) as well as your enthusiasm and imagination.

The Slocan Valley ice sculptors have carved out 12 blocks of ice from a pond in Winlaw which are just waiting to get some attention. A fun day, come out and watch the carvers at work, or become a carver yourself.

They already have set up an ice slide for the kids to enjoy and Sleep Is For Sissies has an large, active ice rink set up for families to enjoy.

If you wish to reserve a block of ice, or need more information, contact Peter Vogelaar at or phone 250-226-7479.

Sleep is For Sissies can be found on Highway 6 just before you enter Winlaw — are a short 20 km (12 mile) drive from both Castlegar and Nelson on Highway 3A/6.
