Neptunes grab medals en route to bronze medal finish in Castlegar

The Nelson Neptunes continue to stick to the season plan of using the regular season as a building block for the big prize at the end of the year, the Kootenay Regionals set for August at home in the NDCC Pool.

Nelson finished third to surprising Grand Forks Piranhas during the latest stop on the Kootenay Summer Swim Association season Sunday in Castlegar.

Host Castlegar Aquanauts took the runner up spot behind Grand Forks with Trail Stingrays fourth and Kimberley fifth.

“The season is going by incredibly fast,” said Nelson coach Sarah Broen.

“The swimmers are putting in 100 percent effort at every practice in and out of the pool, which is really starting to show.”

Nelson was paced at Castlegar by gold medal aggregate performances by Kiera Badry, Kallie Badry and coach Sarah Broen.

“We have seen a lot of time taken off in all of our races and I am super excited to see what we can do at regionals with the home pool advantage,” Broen said.

Neptune results included:

  • Division 1: Kiera Badry- gold
  • Division 2: Kallie Badry- gold, Lachlan Bibby-Fox- silver & Sasha Eaton – bronze
  • Division 3: Chloe Malenfant- bronze
  • Division 4: Jaylen Rushton- silver
  • Division 6: Olivia Cowan & Matthew Holitzki- tied for silver
  • Division 8: Sarah Broen- gold

Colville Results:

  • Division 1: Keira Badry- gold
  • Division 2: Kallie Badry- gold,  Lachlan Bibby-Fox- silver,
  • Division 3: Chloe Malenfant- silver & Ella Chouinard- bronze
  • Division 4: Jaylen Rushton
  • Division 6: Olivia Cowan, tied for Matthew Holitzki- bronze
  • Division 7: Sage Cowan- silver
  • Division 8: Sarah Broen & Cynthia Pfeiffer – tied for gold

The Neptunes have a weekend off before concluding the season July 29-30 in Kimberley.

The following weekend, August 5-6, Nelson plays host to the Kootenay Regionals at the NDCC Pool.
