Drivers on the morning commute to Nelson experienced an unexpected traffic jam after a van left the road less than a kilometer west of the Taghum Shell Gas Station Thursday morning.

The single-vehicle accident happened shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday.

A grey van went off the road into the ditch.

There were no injuries reported as the driver walked away.

RCMP attended the scene as well as members of the Beasley Volunteer Fire Department who assisted with traffic control.

Traffic is expected to be slow moving for most of the summer on Highway 3A as a $3.4 Million milling and paving project ties up the highway from Playmor Junction to east of the Taghum Bridge — seven kilometers west of Nelson.

Crews have been busy removing no-post curbing from the highway. The road is reduced to single lane, alternating traffic with delay expected up to 20 minutes.

The project is expected to last until mid August.
