Prince Charles cruises past Crowe en route to Bomber Tournament Title
A well-oiled Prince Charles Comets teams waltzed into the Hangar during the weekend and left with the L.V. Rogers Bombers Junior Boy’s Basketball Tournament Title Saturday in Nelson.
The Comets opened up a 20-3 first quarter lead en route to a 44-28 victory over the J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks in the championship of the six-team tournament.
Matty Hills let the high-powered PCSS attack with 17 points while Mark Armstrong added 10 points.
Karssey Leung had 10 points for the Hawks, which advanced to the final on a tie-breaker.
Crowe finished in a tie with Stanley Humphries Rockers of Castlegar and Grand Forks Wolves.
However Hawks gained the upper hand on the points-for-and-against tie-breaker.
Host LVR Bombers finished sixth after losing 53-26 to the Rockers. Marvin Archer led the Rockers with 17 points, 12 of the points coming in garbage time with the game already decided.
Mike Zarikoff led the Bombers with eight points.
Max Spielmal added six points for the Bombers.
LVR opened the tournament Friday losing 54-18 to Creston.
Kale Plotnikoff led the Comets with 11 points.
Zarikoff and Jairo Mangapot each had six points.
The Bombers then dropped a tough 56-42 decision to Mount Sentinel Wildcats of South Slocan.
Bombers opened a 10-1 lead, but watch the Cats claw back into the contest to lead 22-16 at the half.
Josh Sookerukoff lead the Cats with 17 points.
Thomas Baxter led the Bombers with 17 points.
In the third/fourth game, Grand Forks dumped Mount Sentinel.
