There were a few bear sightings Wednesday on the 500 Block of Baker Street.

However, there was no need to call Nelson Police or the BC Conservation Officer.

These bears were compliments of Stone Sculptor Stewart Steinhauer of Creston.

Steinhauer was in the Heritage City dropping off a piece to be showcased in front of the City of Nelson building on Ward Street.

For Steinhauer, the bear is a spiritual being with a powerful teaching to share.

“Likewise the raw material of my work: rock. I work for a spiritual being called the Rock Spirit,” he said on his website.

Steinhauer showcased and fielded questions from the public about his bears for most of Wednesday before taking them back to Creston.
