Nelson drivers may want to take notice of the new signage located at the intersection of Vernon and Cedar Streets.

Last week, City of Nelson Public Works Staff place new “Do Not Enter” signage on the Cedar Street heading north down the hill on Cedar Street from Vernon Street past Nelson Youth Soccer Indoor facility and Curling Club building from the Cedar/Vernon Street intersection.

In October 2014, City staff thought, following the Sustainable Waterfront and Downtown Master Plan (SWDMP), the traffic plan would be best served by re-aligning traffic on Cedar and Hall Street.

The overhaul of the five-way Cedar/Vernon/High Street intersection along with the re-routing of traffic on Cedar and Hall Streets was aimed at establishing stronger, safer pedestrian and traffic connections between historic Baker Street.

However, before changes could be made the new council did somewhat of an about face during a meeting in February 2015.

But drivers should be aware of the new traffic pattern change at Cedar/Vernon Street intersection.

The signs went up Thursday of last week.

Drivers are still becoming accustomed to the change as several vehicles were noticed going against the new “Do Not Enter” signage.
