Kalein Hospice Centre and Nelson & District Hospice Society Celebrate Mothers Day with Sculture donation of 'Mother & Child'
Kalein Hospice Centre and the Nelson and District Hospice Society co-hosted a special ceremony in honoring mothers, both as individuals and for the unique energy and significance of motherhood in all cultures Saturday (May 9).
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of a beautiful soapstone sculpture, ‘Mother and Child’ donated to Kalein Hospice Centre by local sculptor, Denis Kleine.
In his speech Kleine shared that when he first heard about Kalein, and the Centre’s focus on exploration of living fully at all stages of life, he felt that giving it a home at the Centre was a natural fit.
As part of the ceremony, guests were asked to bring a plant as an offering in recognition of their mother.
The sculpture and plants were blessed by Dr. Rosalyn Grady. Each plant will be planted in the Kalein Gardens later this spring, as part of the Centre’s landscape garden project.
A lovely champagne and cupcake reception followed the blessing. Cupcakes were donated by Lucky Cakes and Confections.
The sculpture is on view in the main lobby of the Kalein Hospice Centre. Community residents are invited to visit the Centre, to view the sculpture and walk the grounds.
