So you want to learn how to play the sport of golf.

Well, this is a great time to learn as local courses are opening faster than presents at Christmas.

Granite Pointe at Nelson teed off the season Thursday with Balfour opening up the 2015 campaign on grass Friday.

“Winter was great,” said Balfour club professional Craig Wilkinson on the eve of the opening.

“All the greens are looking good and the fairways for the most part at this time of the year are looking awesome.”

Wilkinson said in during his four-year career at Balfour, this is the second earliest opening for the course that usually tees off on the season in April.

Balfour opens Friday with all holes available for play.

At Nelson, players took to the course Thursday as the 2015 season saw its earliest opening in years.

Wilkinson said Balfour hosts Men’s night Tuesday with Ladies day every Thursday.

Senior’s Day is Wednesday mornings.

At Granite, Tuesday is Ladies Day with Seniors going Wednesday morning.

Thursday is Men’s Night Granite Pointe.

Around the West Kootenay, golfers in the Silver City area have been on the course since March 17 while Castlegar players will need to wait until April 3 before teeing up the ball.

Redstone in Rossland has yet to confirm opening day.
