Salmon Arm RCMP take distraught man into custody
A man was safely taken into custody Wednesday night (March 4) after police responded to reports that he was distraught, intoxicated and armed.
Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a report of a distraught man in a vehicle at 5:11 p.m., ton a rural property of Black Road.
The man was reportedly intoxicated and in the possession of a firearm.
Responding officers from Salmon Arm, with the assistance of Police Dog Services and North Okanagan RCMP, established containment of the property and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) was activated due to the risk to the public safety. Communication was eventually established with the man and officers were able to successfully de-escalate the situation; safely taking the man into custody.
The man was uninjured but was taken to hospital for any treatment he might require.
