The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died after being struck by a train in Malakwa on March 21 as Gilles Robert Joseph Thivierge, aged 61, of Malakwa, a small community about 11 kilometres east of Sicamous.

Thivierge was the rear-seat passenger in a car which left the road near the intersection of Malakwa and Huster Roads at about 9:45 p.m. on March 21, and ended up stuck on the nearby CP rail tracks.

The three persons in the car got out of the vehicle, but Mr. Thivierge was struck by a 58-car westbound freight train before he could get clear of the tracks. He was deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
