Residents in Balfour and Kaslo will need to travel a little farther to dispose of garbage this spring and summer as the Regional District of Central Kootenay upgrades transfer stations in the respective areas.

“These upgrades will improve service to the public and further align the RDCK with it’s Zero Waste goals,” said Tom Newell, Chair of the Central Subregion.

The upgrades are part of the 2010 Resource Recovery Plan.

It is anticipated that the contract will be awarded on April 16 with construction starting May 4th and running until the last week of August.

The Kaslo Transfer Station is expected to be closed from May 4 to June 22 for construction while the Balfour Transfer Station will be shutdown June 22 to August 23.

Questions can be sent to RDCK at 250-352-6665 or www.rdck.bc.ca
