RCMP continue to investigate suspicious death in Ladysmith
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) and the Ladysmith RCMP are currently investigating a suspicious death in Ladysmith.
Police and BC Ambulance Service Paramedics attended a residence in the 10000 Block of the Trans Canada Highway following a 9-1-1 call, reporting a physical altercation between a group of people at the residence. The call was received shortly before midnight on February 3, 2015.
When police and paramedics arrived, a 55 year old female resident of Ladysmith was located. Despite the efforts of first responders, the woman died at the scene. Investigators are treating her death as an apparent homicide.
Police have taken a 50 year old Ladysmith man, who was known to the deceased, into custody. No charges have been laid at this time.
Investigators are in the very early stages of this investigation, states Cpl. Darren Lagan, spokesperson for the Vancouver Island RCMP. While their investigation is in its infancy, there is no evidence to suggest there is any risk to the public.
