Traditional carved mask recovered, suspect arrested in Alert Bay

A suspect was arrested after a a traditional carved mask was recovered by RCMP in Alert Bay Wednesday (September 24).

Alert  Bay RCMP said the suspect was arrested in the Wednesday and later released on a Promise to Appear in Provincial Court on November 12 in Port Hardy.

The man faces charges of breaking and entering, theft, and public mischief.

On (Friday) September 19 RCMP notified the media of a traditional carved mask that was stolen from a property in Alert Bay.

Then on Wednesday (September 24) a private collector voluntarily surrendered the carved mask to the Alert Bay RCMP Detachment.

Due to the circumstances, they will not be facing any charges of possession of property obtained by crime.

The mask was confirmed to be the same as that stolen the previous week and it was subsequently returned to the rightful owner.

As these charges are not yet sworn, the man’s name cannot be released at this time.
