The hot weather has forced the Regional District of Central Kootenay to ask Balfour residents to conserve water.

This request is due to the Balfour water system experiencing record high levels of demand due to the extreme hot weather and lack of rainfall.

STAGE 2 WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES are now in effect as follows:

  • Sprinkling of gardens, trees, and shrubs is permitted ONE DAY PER WEEK ONLY for a maximum of 2 hours between 4 to 7 a.m and 7 to 10 p.m.
  • Washing sidewalks, driveways, vehicles, and outdoor surfaces is not permitted.
  • Filling outdoor hot tubs and swimming pools is not permitted.

Thursday, the RDCK issued the same warning to Woodland Heights water system.

The above restrictions apply to the watering of lawns only; watering of flower and vegetable gardens by hose, spring nozzle, and hand-held container is still permitted.

The RDCK appreciates your cooperation in adhering to the above water conservation measures. Stage 2 Water Conservation Measures will remain in effect until further notice.
