Mudslide closes Highway 97 near Summerland

Sunday afternoon near Summerland, a large section of cliff collapsed on Highway 97 closing the the southbound lanes of the Okanagan road.

The landslide injured an Alberta couple and covered two lanes of Highway 97, bringing traffic to a crawl Sunday afternoon at about 11:30 a.m..

Tons of hard clay and rocks fell from a large section of cliff 20 metres above the four-lane highway just south of Callan Road, six kilometres north of Summerland.

The force of the slide propelled the southbound SUV into the northbound fast lane.
