A WestJet airplane en route from Calgary to the  Kelowna International Airport was struck by lightning Tuesday.

The plane was able to successfully land following the incident.

A WestJet official said the plane was grounded after the damage was found and its next scheduled flight was cancelled.

Lightening strikes to airplanes cause little or no damage, and the passengers aboard the plane may not even have noticed it had occurred.
