Strong arm bullying scam

RCMP in Nanaimo are warning the public about the latest scam circulating through the Island City which uses strong arm bullying tactics in an attempt to extract money from their victims.

Earlier this week (Tuesday March 5) a 62-year-old male received a phone call from a person identifying himself as George Billesky , who said he works with the Department of Justice.

Billesky told the male he owed money and he must pay immediately. When the male told Billesky he would be calling his lawyer, BILLESKY became irate and said if he did not pay, Billesky would contact the police and he would have the male beaten black and blue by police.

Our home owner immediately hung up and called the Nanaimo RCMP, who in turn called the number Billesky provided. By background noises it appeared he was calling from a call center, and this male was as just as rude and aggressive as the first caller, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

This is an obvious scam, using aggressive language and outright threats of physical violence.

Do not subject yourself to these types of telephone calls. Hang up then report it to the Nanaimo RCMP.
