Watson Lake RCMP have since recovered the body of a 43 year old male from Lower Post BC after he was reported missing on Thursday (January 2).

Family and friends reported the male missing after they hadn’t heard from him.  He was last seen leaving the New Years Eve fireworks celebration in Lower Post BC on his snowmobile on January 1.

Friends searched for him after he failed to return home.

On January 2, 2014 RCMP were notified and immediately organized a search crew.  With the assistance of numerous Community members and a helicopter, a ground and aerial search of the area was conducted at first light.

On January 3rd the male’s body and snowmobile were located only a short distance from his residence. It appeared the deceased drove off the road, hit a snowbank and was thrown over an embankment.

His body was found on the bank of the partially frozen Liard River. Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors.

As there is no foul play involved in this incident, the BC Coroner Service has taken jurisdiction.
