The Mount Sentinel Wildcats rebounded from a heartbreaking semi final loss to hammer the J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks 70-50 in the Consolation final at the Cats High School Boy’s Basketball Tournament Saturday in South Slocan.

Prince Charles Comets of Creston won the tournament by dumping Grand Forks Wolves 84-33.

The Comets, defeating the Hawks in the semi final, ran away with the game in the first quarter. Prince Charles combined a full-court press with an up-tempo offence to build a 24-4 lead after 10 minutes.

Grand Forks, a team missing one if its starters injured in the semi final win over Mount Sentinel, had no answers for the Comets.

The Cats rode the strong performance of Johnny Johnson, who scored a game high 21 points, to victory in the consolation final.

Mount Sentinel also employed a pressing defence that rattled the Hawks.

The Cats, opening with easy win over Nakusp, struggled in the morning contest against Grand Forks.

Mount Sentinel missed several easy shots allowing the Wolves to regroup.

The game was tied with four seconds remaining and Grand Forks at the free throw line.

The Grand Forks player scored one of two free throws.

Mount Sentinel grabbed the rebound off the second shot, went the length of the floor before missing a layup that would have given the host team the win.

Johnson led the Cats in the semi final, finishing with 19 points.
