Fatal accident closes highway west of Golden Friday

A 23-year-old female SUV driver had died as a result of an accident west of Golden Friday evening.

Golden RCMP Traffic Services responded to a collision five kilometers west of Golden at a approximately 8 p.m. MT Friday (December 20).

An eastbound SUV lost control crossing over into the westbound lane and was broadside by pickup truck. The 23 year old female driver of the SUV was deceased on scene.

A female passenger in the truck was transported to Golden General Hospital by ambulance and later transferred to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

The Trans Canada Highway was closed for four hours, reopening around midnight.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

“This is a very busy time of year on local highways and road conditions can change very quickly,” said Cst. A.J. Brunner of the Golden RCMP.

“Please give yourself extra time when making your travel plans and get everyone home safe.”

RCMP will not be releasing the name of the deceased.
