Kamloops RCMP took an impaired driver off the streets utilizing a spike belt , after the man tried to flee from police.

Just before 10 p.m. Sunday (October 6) , an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Tranquille Road after it was observed driving erratically.

The vehicle sped off from police and was located a few minutes later by another officer on patrol. As police brought the vehicle to a stop on the Summit connector, it fled a second time.

Officers were set up on McGill Road where the suspect blew past one road block and then encountered a second road block where a spike belt was effectively deployed. The spike belt took out three of the tires, resulting in the vehicle stopping and the driver being arrested without further incident.

The 24-year-old male provided breath samples that will result in officers recommending charges relating to impaired driving, along with other driving related offences, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

The male, with a lengthy criminal record, appeared in court later Monday.
