RCMP said a 19-year-old male Oliver resident has been charged for Break and Enter and Commit Mischief / Assault related offences.

The charges result after a 59-year-old female occupant contacted emergency services Sunday just after midnight to report that someone had sprayed an irritating substance into her residence.

Initial scene investigation resulted in the location of a cannister of Bear Spray, wrapped in electrical tape, in close proximity to the residence. The occupant was subsequently treated by EHS for exposure to the Bear Spray.

The suspect has since been released before a Judicial Justice of the Peace and will be appearing on October 2 at BC Provincial Court in Penticton.

This residence was subject of much media attention as a result of an exploded IED complaint, reported on August 12. At this point, it does not appear that the two incidents are related.
