A 19 year old Nanaimo resident is in critical condition in a Victoria Hospital after she was struck by a Dodge Dakota.
Thursday (August 8) the Nanaimo area woman was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital with life threatening injuries after she was struck by a pickup truck traveling southbound on the Trans Canada Hwy near Morden Road in, Nanaimo.
The collision occurred at approx 12:30 a.m. when the woman and her boyfriend were walking southbound along the northbound shoulder of the highway.

The woman suddenly crossed the highway, jumping over the divider into the path of an approaching southbound Dodge Dakota, driven by a 59-year-old Duncan woman.

Visibility in the area was limited, as there is no artificial lighting in place.  The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing at the time of the collision.

Speed and alcohol are not contributing factors on the part of the driver, however investigators suspect the pedestrian had been consuming alcohol.
Nanaimo RCMP Traffic Services along with an RCMP Traffic Analyst/Reconstructionist are investigating this collision.
