RCMP in Sicamous has confirmed a man died last week while car surfing.

Troy Charlton, 49, was found lying on the street severely injured last week.

Initial reports thought Charlton to be a victim of a hit-and-run but witnesses now say Charlton was seen leaving a party riding on the hood of a car and thrown to the pavement as a result of a sudden stop..

The driver Christina Laforge, 46, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and impaired driving causing death.

Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Dave Dubnyk says it appears alcohol was a factor.

Laforge is scheduled to appear in court in Salmon Arm in September.
