The Canada Border Services Agency is warning Canadians of a possible phone scam and fraud.

The scam has people claiming to be CBSA’s Border Information Service calling Canadians to request personal and payments over the phone.

The agency said in a statement that the unit is not designed nor is it mandated to make phone calls requesting personal information or payments over the phone.

Should citizens be contacted by anyone claiming to be a CBSA officer working at the service, they should immediately call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre toll free at 1-888-495-8501.
