Body recovered from vehicle that went off Gabriola ferry

Gabriola RCMP can now confirm they have recovered the body of a female from the vehicle, which is  resting in a 120 feet of water. 

The RCMP Dive Team with assistance from the RCMP West Coast Marine, Patrol Vessel Higgett,and  Canada Border Services Agency were able to enter the vehicle and recover the body at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday (March 21).

Experts on the scene are trying to recover the vehicle by using air sacks to float it to the surface and then to land.  

The female victim, 32 years of age was from Gabriola. 

Next of kin have been advised and have requested RCMP with hold her name. 

This investigation has now been turned over to the Coroner’s office.
