A three-kilometer stretch of the Nelson/Salmo Great Northern Trail is getting a facelift Saturday said the Regional District of Central Kootenay.

The stretch of trail, between the BNR Seloux Treslte and Cottonwood Lake/Highway 6 crossing, is being closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to create a more user friendly approach to South Seloux Trestle as well as vegetation work and trail erosion control.

Staff at Yellowhead Road and Bridge (YRB) is donating time, equipment and material for the project.

Also assisting the project are volunteers from Nelson Nordic Ski Club, RDCK and Ministry of Transportation.

The work should increase the safety of the Great Northern Trail for hikers, walkers, bikers and skiers for both summer and winter activities.
