The man who fell down an embankment near Hope has been identified as Steven Robert Thomas, aged 51, from Merritt.

Thomas died of injuries Tuesday (July 17) after falling down an embackment while taking pictures on the Coquihalla Highway 30 kilometers north of Hope.

Hope RCMP received a call at approximately 10 a.m. to assist the Emergency Health Services after man had fallen down a bank.

Thomas had exited his vehicle in an attempt to take pictures of the scenery.

As he was climbing down the embankment, Thomas lost his footing and fell approximately 10 metres.

An air ambulance transported the man to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster where he was listed in critical condition.

Thomas later succumbed to his injuries Wednesday (July 18) morning.

“This is so tragic,” said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck.

The Hope RCMP will continue to assist the BC Coroner Service in their investigation.
