Nelson Canada Day 2012 can be summed up using one word — wet.

However, for those people getting up early for the events there was a little sunshine in the day to keep people happy — that was, of course, before the skies opened up in the early afternoon.

However, before the rains the day kicked off in grand fashion with opening ceremonies and the signing of O’Canada.

Those attending were treated to birthday cake and small Canadian Flags along with numerous booths of entertainment.

There was the annual Sandcastle Competition sponsored by EZ Rock on the smaller than normal Lakeside Beach.

But just as people have seen throughout the month of June, the rains came in forcing a rain-out of the traditional Canada Day Fireworks Show.

Organizers were forced to toss in the towel on the final event due to flooding of the Nelson waterfront and fields at Lakeside.

The fireworks have now been moved to B.C. Day weekend, August 4-6.

The official day has yet to be confirmed.
