Fish nets man time in police custody, father with big catch
On July 23rd, 2012 at 12:19 p.m. the Comox Valley RCMP and the Canadian Coast Guard responded to a complaint of a boat running onto the reef in Kye Bay.
Police located the boater walking on the beach carrying a 38-pound salmon.
Checks were conducted and the man was found to have three warrants for his arrest, held by the Comox Valley RCMP.
The man explained that he was fighting the fish, when he had a problem with his fishing reel and, while dealing with that, he noted that he was in shallow water.
Not wanting to lose his fish, he elected to bring the fish in and not turn the boat out to deeper water.
The fish was dropped off at his father’s freezer, and he was taken to the police station.
