The BC Coroners Service and Kamloops RCMP have confirmed the identity of a male found deceased near his car off Long Lake Road between Merritt and Kamloops on May 30.

The male is Rory Nelson Wagner, aged 53. He had most recently been living in Kamloops.

Mr. Wagner was reported missing to the Kamloops RCMP on May 23, 2012, after he failed to return to his residence.

On May 30, hunters noted Mr. Wagner’s vehicle, apparently abandoned on the road, and reported it to the RCMP. While waiting for officers to arrive, the hunters checked the surrounding area and discovered Mr. Wagner’s body.

There was evidence of scavenging by a bear.

Mr. Wagner’s identity was confirmed through fingerprint comparison.

Autopsy and toxicology testing will be undertaken by the BC Coroners Service to determine a cause of death.

The family of Mr. Wagner has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
