Brent Parent was handed his sentence today for Criminal Negligence Causing Death, Dangerous Driving and Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident.

“There is always a tremendous sense of accomplishment for IHIT following a conviction, because it means the Courts had sufficient evidence to reach a conclusion beyond a reasonable doubt,” said RCMP Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

“For this to have happened, IHIT and our partners have succeeded in doing our job. The sentence today confirms this.”

Parent has been sentenced to five years and six months in jail with a 12-year driving prohibition to begin once time has been served.

“Any criminal offence that results in the loss of a life, whether or not it’s a homicide, needs to be investigated to the fullest extent possible, as IHIT has done here,”  Pound explained.

“Every conviction contributes to the confidence and public safety of all Canadians who can take comfort in the knowledge that guilty persons will face justice. “
