Man missing for 27 years found deceased near cabin by recreational diver
The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed a body pulled from Powell Lake last month has been identified as a man who went missing 27 years ago.
Francis John Howes, of Powell River, was seen alive on July 18, 1984, at the Powell Lake Marina where he kept his boat.
The boat was later found tied up at his float cabin on Powell Lake. A search was conducted of the area, including the water near the cabin, but without success.
Then last month a recreational diver found human remains about 27.5 metres below the surface of the water near Howes’s cabin.
Officials say a thorough investigation and autopsy have ruled out foul play.
