Delta Police in Princeton to investigate man's death
Delta Police were in Princeton Friday to begin an investigation into a man’s death Thursday.
Shortley after 2 p.m. a member from the Princeton RCMP observed a speeding motorist traveling east bound on Highway #3 about 16 kilometers from Princeton and pulled him over.
Though the driver initially stopped for the member, as the RCMP officer was approaching, the vehicle left.
The RCMP officer was joined by another member from Princeton RCMP who attempted to locate the driver and vehicle.
It was located behind a local Princeton Hotel. The two officers parked to approach the vehicle.
As they were leaving their vehicles to approach the suspect vehicle, a gunshot was heard.
The members called for backup and a lone male has been found deceased in the vehicle. There is no indication the RCMP members fired their weapons.
In keeping with the RCMP’s commitment to independent external review of cases involving serious injury or death, the Delta Police Department will investigate this incident.
The scene has been secured by members from Southeast District Major Crime. Investigators from the Delta Police have arrived.
The BC Coroners Service is also conducting an investigation, which is standard procedure in cases where a death occurs in close proximity to any involvement with police.
