Young offender arrested in Golden residential fire
One young offender has been charged and two suspects have been interviewed after fired gutted a Campbell Road residence near Golden.
RCMP in Golden and Nicholson Fire Department were called to attend a fire Monday, March 12 at 1539 Campbell Road in Nicholson.
When police and fire officials arrived the fire was fully involved and the residence could not be saved.
The owners had been absent since the middle of February.
Five days later RCMP was provided with information that identified the suspect.
After conducting interviews, two other suspects surfaced.
According to the information gleaned from the investigation to date the suspects broke into the residence repeatedly to party, cause malicious damage and steal property.
On March 11, 2012, two of the suspects entered the residence and set fires within, and when smoke detectors activated neighbours who contacted the Fire Department noticed the fire.
The arrested Young Offender has been remanded in Police custody to appear in Youth Court in Cranbrook March 19, charged with Arson to Property, Break and Enter and Possession of Stolen Property.
The investigation is continuing, and the two other suspects identified have been interviewed and are expected to face charges.
The Police have recovered much of the property stolen from the residence.
The Golden/ Field RCMP is seeking assistance from anyone who observed anything, or has information, which might aid the investigation.
