The Osprey Community Foundation is pleased to recently receive a $20,000 contribution from the Nelson and District Credit Union.

The contribution boosts the totally capital in the NDCU’s endowment fund to $110,000.

The fund was established in 2001.

The capital in the fund is never spent but annual earnings flow back into the community like an apple tree that is never cut down but produces a new crop of apples to share every year.

Here’s what’s special about NDCU’s apples. With most of our funds, the income goes to particular ocal charities or scholarships designated by the donor.

But earnings from the NDCU fund are not designated.

Instead, they can be used to boosts our general community granting program. That allows us to meet a greater number of requests for funding each year.

The Foundation looks forward to picking those apples, year after year, and to distributing them to local charities where they will do the most good.

A reminder the deadline for this year’s community grant applications is Friday, March 30.

The Foundation is also accepting Arts Legacy Grant applications for Literary Arts projects, also until March 30th.
