This is a group of triathletes had so much fun training and competing together the squad decided to do it all over again, this time at the 2012 “Ride To Conquer Cancer” in June from Vancouver to Seattle.

“We were in triathlete training and bonded so well as a group we decided to join the Vancouver to Seattle Cancer ride,” said of Team Mountain Spirit.

“We all had friends or family in some way that was affected by cancer to we entered the “Ride To Conquer Cancer” ride, plus it was a good way to stay training and support a good cause,” Olsen added.

The Ride to Conquer Cancer, which is a two-day bike-riding event from Vancouver to Seattle, is approximately a 260-kilometer distance.

This year they have 3000 people entered and should be an inspiring time for my team.

However, to enter each member of the 13-person Team Mountain Spirit must obtain $2500 in donations to participate. All the money raised go towards cancer research and benefits different types of Cancer treatment centers.

To help with the entry fee Team Mountain Spirit is hosting a bike-a-thon at various sites around Nelson Saturday — Roam, Sacred Ride, Gerick’s and the B.C. Liquor store.

The team is urging the public to frequent any of the sites to donate to the team. The spin runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Roam, Sacred Ride and Gerick’s and noon to 5 p.m. at Liquor Store.

Donators can also fill out a form to make a pledge and get a tax-deductible receipt and follow Team Mountain’s success on our team’s web site at www.comquercancer.ca

As of Saturday, Team Mountain Spirit has reached 42 per cent of its goal.

Team Mountain Spirit includes, Yvonne Kiwior, Lorelei Olsen, Danica Lee, Hazel Miller, Kara Montefiore, Barbara Williams, Bruce McMaster, Debbie Bird, Allison Schlosser, Naomi Zeindler-Olsen, Peter Lee and Marie Hodgson.
