No cull of deer in Invermere

February 14th, 2012

The Invermere Deer Protection Organization has received a temporary court injunction top halt the District of Invermere from a scheduled deer cull.

The District of Invermere was going to kill up to 100 urban deer, beginning this past weekend.

However, Friday the IDPO managed to gain an interm court injunction to stop the cull.

Deer have become a nuisance in the East Kootenay, attacking pets and even people, but opposition is growing to the region’s plan to cull up to 225 urban deer by the end of 2012.

Invermere is the third East Kootenay community to begin killing urban deer.

Cranbrook began culling deer in the fall while the City of Kimberley conducted a cull in January.
