Impaired driving by drug suspected in fatal crash on Sea to Sky Highway.
The investigation into Saturday January 28, 2012 fatal crash on the Sea to Sky Hwy at Function Junction continues.
The highway was reopened at 7:15 a.m. Sunday morning after an 8 hour closure in both directions.
A 19-year-old male driver from Calgary Alberta is being investigated
for Impaired Driving by Drug.
It is alleged that his newer model Dodge pick up truck crossed the centre line northbound on the Sea to Sky Hwy, crashing into a southbound Limousine killing the lone occupant driver, a 54-year-old male from the Lower Mainland after the limousine exploded and was engulfed in flames.
“This is a terrible tragedy that resulted in the death of an innocent driver” says Sgt Peter Thiessen of the Lower Mainland District RCMP.
“The family of the deceased victim has been affected for a lifetime and will never be the same”
The NOK notification is in the process of being completed and as a result the victims identity will not be released at this time.
The 19-year-old male driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local area hospital pending further investigation.
The crash is currently under investigation by Whistler and Squamish RCMP along with Lower Mainland District Traffic Services and ICARS.
