Putting the community back into community schools
W. E. Graham Community School in conjunction with the Community Services Society has teamed up to put Community back into Community School.
These efforts are beginning to pay off with many exciting programs and opportunities.
Together they are holding three more senior lunches which is a continuation of a program started last year and the seniors are looking to get funding to allow them to continue after the initial program has concluded.
As well, with onset of winter, the seniors will be coming back into the school for their walking program and to make use of the facility for their senior’s drop in center.
A few weeks ago the K-3 class kicked off their buddy reading program during D.E.A.R. Day (Drop Everything and Read) by inviting the children from the Daycare. This buddy reading program will continue Mondays after recess (10:43 a.m.).
The W. E. Graham Community Services Society has also secured funding to offer after school art programs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school until the end of the school year.
Run by local artists these programs include: Art Sparks Slocan with Nancylee Smith; Clay Play with Willo and Theatre for the Goofy with Norma Kilpatrick. The programs are from 2:45-4:15 p.m. and are sponsored by the Heritage Credit Union and the Village of Slocan through the CBT Community Initiatives Program.
