LVR Rec Leadership raised big bucks for charity
The L.V. Rogers Rec Leadership class went above and beyond the call of attending school by raising approximately $2,000 during a fundraiser Saturday at the Fairview high school.
“We basically organized the whole event in about two weeks,” said LVR Rec Leadership instructor Sherri Morrison.
“Both students in the Rec 11 and 12 classes helped, but Taryn (Scarff) was the lead on this event,” Morrison added.
Each year Morrison challenges students in Rec Leadership 12 to find a way to give back to the community.
This year Taryn Scarff spearheaded the class with her idea to host a pancake breakfast.
Morrison said approximately 250 people attended the three-hour event, raising the large sum of money.
“We made about $2000 in the three hours,” Morrison said.
“About 12 local businesses, and some individuals, donated items for the silent auction. There was the pancake breakfast, a silent auction, a bake sale, kids crafts, and pictures with Santa.”
Last year the Grade 12 Rec Leadership staged a comedy night, raising money to purchase a new maternity scale for the Kootenay Lake Hospital.
