Walter Gretzky named Canada's 2011 Father of the Year

June 13th, 2011

In recognition of his extraordinary life, Walter Gretzky, one of Canada’s most famous fathers, is being honoured as Canada’s 2011 Father of the Year.

A modest man from humble beginnings, Walter Gretzky raised five children in his hometown of Brantford, Ont., inspiring and mentoring his son Wayne to become one of the greatest hockey players in the world.

A fighter in his own right, Walter battled back from a near-fatal brain aneurysm in 1991 and today devotes his time to helping charities and fundraisers — raising millions of dollars for worthy causes across Canada during the past 20 years.

“Being named Canada’s Father of the Year is an incredible honour for me. Reminding sons and daughters to make the call on Father’s Day is a message that’s close to my heart,” said Walter Gretzky from his Brantford home.

Walter Gretzky was named Father of the Year by Doro, a leader in easy to use cell phones and devices designed especially for seniors.
