On Sunday June 5, the 10th annual West Kootenay Walk for ALS will take place at Lakeside Rotary Park.

Registration is at 11:30 a.m. with the five-kilometre walk getting under way at 1 p.m.

Everyone is welcome. Proceeds will go to support research into the cause of and cure for ALS and to support patient services provided by the ALS Society of B.C.

ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects the person’s motor neurons that carry messages to the muscles resulting in weakness and wasting in arms, legs, mouth, throat and elsewhere.

Typically the person is immobilized or deceased within two to five years of the initial diagnosis.
