Water Act modernization alert

A new provincial Water Act could be introduced in 2012. 

Should the BC Government introduce a water market to allocate water in the new Water Act?  Perhaps the government should use an allocation system that provides hierarchy of use prioritizing ecological and social needs.

There are only a few days left to comment on the proposed BC Water Sustainability Act. This soon-to-be legislation will have binding, long-term ramifications on how water is managed in B.C.

The government is now asking people to review the draft document and then comment on this blog.

It’s about the B.C. Water Act, how it’s set to change, and what the government needs to hear from the public before Feb. 21.

For people reviewing the document, Section 5 discusses trading water licenses and the potential for water markets.
