Slocan Valley Recreation, with funding  from ProMOTION Plus, will be offering a free outdoor program for the inactive female 55 and older.

Those participating in Winter Women 55+ will get guided instruction on snowshoeing and cross country skiing, as well as a weight training segment.

Snowshoes are available as are some cross country skis (through the Seniors on Bikes and Skis program). The program begins on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. at the Slocan Park Hall.

The program begins with a fitness assessment before adventuring out on snowshoes, and builds into six Saturday morning sessions where the group will travel along the Slocan Valley Rail Trail.

Well known seniors fitness instructor Helen Kissinger will be leading the group. As well, there are four mid-week sessions of weight training at which participants develop the muscles needed to pursue the activity.

Once confidence is built, the group will reach into a short back-country adventure complete with local biologist Shanoon Bennett explaining the amazing bio-diversity and natural history in the valley.

This program is made possible with funding from ProMOTION Plus, BCRPA & 2010 Legacies Now.

For more information, or to register for this program contact Slocan Valley Recreation at 250-226-0008.
