In the wake of the resignation of the City of Nelson’s chief financial officer, City council named the former chief financial officer and current City manager as the interim officer Monday night.

Kevin Cormack was unanimously named as the temporary replacement for Linda Tynan, who resigned from her position on Dec. 31, 2010.

Having held the position before being named City manager five years ago, Cormack also is a chartered accountant.

City council is required to appoint a chief financial officer and director of corporate services — which Tynan also held — under the Community Charter.

The chief financial officer receives all of the money paid to the municipality, ensures all records of the funds and securities are kept, and invests municipal funds, until required, in authorized investments.

The position also requires expending municipal money as required by City council and exercising control and supervision over the financial affairs of the municipality.
